One of the most enduring horse breeds is the Australian Stock Horse. This breed is well-known for its agility and stamina. Their origin dates back to the very first horses that came to Australia which came from Europe, Africa and Asia. So, this can be considered to be a very ancient breed.
Such is the stamina of this particular horse breed that it is used in many arenas of horse work. It was actually bred specifically to withstand and become adept to the climatic conditions and environment present in Australia. In terms of physical appearance this horse breed stands apart from others by it large eye, broad forehead and arched neck. It has a well-muscled body, and a well-confirmed physical stature which is not bulky. This is why it is ideal for various types of horse events, horse shows as well as work.
The Australian Stock Horse is a horse that not only shows considerable stamina, but also intelligence. It will learn things quickly and it can show endurance in the most difficult of circumstances. Owners will prize it for its good temperament and its courage. Training it to perform required tasks is not difficult. It can grow to a height of 14 to 16.2 hands. It comes in many different colors.
Since this breed is very agile, it has been used in horse shows such as show jumping, endurance riding, polo, dressage, poloc rossee and much more. In mountainous regions the Australian Stock Horse is used for mustering or rounding up cattle. During the 2000 Sydney Olympics Opening Ceremony, 120 stock horses were ridden into the stadium, wherein they performed complicated moves, accompanied by a special version of the music from the film The Man from Snowy River. This once again proves the mirth and ability of this special Australian breed.
