The Fjord Horse is found in hilly areas of Western Norway and is one of the oldest equid breeds. The Fjord breeds of horses have short legs that are also very strong and muscular.
The Fjord Horses are usually 13.1 to 14.3 hands tall and are around 400 to 500 kilos in weight. The colors of the Fjord Horses are one of their very principal features. They mainly have coats of dun or the shades nearest to dun. The primary coats are greydun, browndun or reddun and sometimes even yellowdun and ulsdun. The Fjord Horses very rarely have black or bay coats. Most f these horses have a dark dorsal streaks that start from the tail and goes along the back and to the mane. The Fjord horses typically have dark legs and have zebra like stripes on them.
The Fjord Horses are very strong and tough and have a very calm temperament. They are normally used by farmers to carry heavy loads. The breed id used for some draft work too. They are used both for driving and riding. They are also used in cross-country jumping as well as basic dressage.
