The Kazakh breed comes from a group of steppe horses which were numerous in number in the 5th century. They originate in western Kazakhstan.
The most important characteristics of this breed is its heck which is rugged, its thick neck, wide body, deep chest, straight back and strong legs. Common colors for this breed are bay, dark bay or red, occasionally grayish or grey.
This breed is not very popular because it does not show good performance. The hors’s gait is not very good. However, they are quite hardy and therefore more of use in farm work. In the latter part of the 20th century, this breed was improved by cross-breeding with breeds such as the Orlov trotter, the Don and the Thoroughbred.
