Many horse breeds that we see today have a European Bloodline. Considering the roots of a breed is important because it helps the owner to better understand the breed’s characteristics, nature, qualities and capabilities. Most often horses are selected based on its ancient roots in order to gain a breed with specific characteristics that is useful when training the horse for events, competitions and even for heavy farm work.
One breed with typical European roots is the Kisber Felver. The Kisber Felver is basically a Hungarian breed and was developed for breeding thoroughbred horses, Unfortunately the World War left a bad impact on this breed and it numbers dwindled considerably. When these horses came to America, they were sold at an auction. It was the intelligence of a select few breeders, through which it survived in the United States. It is because of the efforts of these breeders that we have this breed today with us, intact and in form.
The Kisber Felver is indeed a stunning horse with excellent performance abilities. One look at it and you can find why it is so different from others. Its neck is either straight or slightly arched, shoulders are well-sloped and its forelegs are muscular. Typical height for this horse is 16 to 17 hands. Usual colors for this breed are Bay, Black or Chestnut.
Owners of this horse will find it to possess the right temperament and conformation that is necessary for a good sports horse. They can quite easily trained, which is why they are much valued in racing circles. They show endurance and are ideal for touring, eventing, and equestrian sports. They make equally good saddle horses.
In 1989 the National Kisbér Félvér Association was established to help promote this breed. The aim of this association is to enhance this breed in all aspect such as physical abilities, looks and temperament.
