The Lokai is a mountain horse breed was developed in central and southern Tajikistan. The breed was created by the Lokai tribe which is a sub-tribe of the Uzbek. Initially this breed has more of central Asian horse blood in it, but later the breed was improved by crossbreeding with Persian breeds.
In terms of physical characteristics, this horse breed is different because it is a short stature horse. It has sloping and muscled shoulders, but its head and neck are short. The horse’s chest is broad and legs are solid with hard hoofs. Common colors for this breed are Chestnut, Grey and Bay.
This is a hardy breed, which is why they were used for as saddle horses. At times, they were also used as draft horses. A horse of this breed can reach a height of 14 to 14.1 hands.
