The most interesting aspect of a horse breed is its history. A horse of a particular breed displays certain characteristics which cannot be found in others. Most often horses that have considerable bloodlines in them are preferred over others. This is because such horses display unique qualities and characteristics, which help them to outshine others in performance and stamina.
The Losino horse breed originates from the Losa Valley, which lies in Spain’s Northern Province – Burgos. Its name is derived from its region of origin. They were used for harnessing, riding and for equestrian riding in rural and mountainous regions of the region.
This breed is closely related to Cantabrian-Pyrenean horse breeds, which includes the now extinct Catalan horse.
In terms of its physical appearance, this is a horse that looks very majestic. It has a flat forehead, small ears, expressive eyes, strong neck, wide chest and broad back. It has an abundance of hair in the mane and in the tail, primarily to protect it from the winter cold. The only color acceptable for a horse to be classified under this breed is black and so a genuine Losino horse must be only in this color. White marks are also seen in the forehead of the horse. They can grow to a height of 15 hands.
With the coming in of mechanization in the 1950’s, the use of this breed declined and so did its numbers. This bred is quite hardy and was primarily used for riding. It shows good performance in trail riding. If you are looking for a horse with Spanish bloodlines in it and which is sturdy, consider buying Losino horse. You can be sure of getting the kind of performance and endurance you want from this breed.
