The Mangalarga horse breed originates from Brazil. This breed was developed in the 19th century. It has many varieties in it for example the Marchador and Paulisto. The Paulisto variety of this breed is lighter and is a very recent development.

The horse has an arched neck, well-defined withers, deep chest, and muscular back. It has sloping shoulders.

Owners of this horse breed will find it to be intelligent and also docile. It can be easily trained and also taught to carry out tasks as required. It has an accelerated gait which is also very regular. This gait is quite unusual because here the horse moves its feet laterally alternatively and diagonally. The result of this is that the rider has a very smooth and comfortable ride. In horse events and horse competitions, this breed will show desired performance levels and expected results.
