The Messara horse came from the coastline of Greece from a place called Crete which is an island. It is a draft horse that can be used for light riding purpose. The horse is called Messara because they were mostly found in the Messara plains. However these horses are quite different from the modern cretin horses that are a result of crossing the native Messara with the Arabian Stallions. This horse is on the top of the list of extinction with less than 100 of them alive in the world. A preservation program had been undertaken and is still trying. The Messara horse can be found in bay, brown, black and gray colors.
