The Miniature horses are found throughout the world. The Miniature horses were produced from various breeds. Various breeds of ponies such as Dartmoor and Shetland ponies were bred to produce the Miniature horses. Though the Miniature Horses are of the size of a little pony, most of them hold the features of a horse and are thus reckoned as horses by their registries.
The Miniature horses were bred in Europe during the 17th century as pets. During the mid 1900’s breeding program was carried on by Lady Estella Hope and her sisters by using original English breeds in England. The Miniature horses were not only used as pets but were used for work as well.
The Miniature horses greatly resemble the Draft or Arab horses, Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses. The Miniature horses are not a result of hereditary problems but are developed by breeding down. The Miniature horses are more enduring compared to the regular horses and live up to 25 to 35 years. They are normally 34 to 38 inches tall and also come in a variety of coats.
The Miniature horses are very friendly great companions and thus are usually kept as pets. These breeds of horses are ideal for people who wish to keep horses but do not have sufficient time to manage a regular sized horse. These horses are also used in various horse shows such as showmanship, jumping, in-hand hunting, liberty and so on.
