The New Forest pony is frequently found in the forests of south-west Hampshire, which lies in the southern part of England. This breed is a native pony breed of England. It is also well known as the Mountain or the Moorland ponies.
The New Forest breed of ponies has many blood lines blended into them, giving them their unique disposition and attributes. The New Forests Pony stands at the height of 12 to14 hh; however, the wild forest bred being of shorter stature, than the rest. The ponies come in all colors of black, roan and chestnut. Of these shades, the Bay and brown ones, are most commonly seen. Some of them bear white markings on their back and flanks, giving them a particularly pleasant appearance. The head of the New Forest Pony is very well-proportioned, in comparison to its body. The features bear a straight profile, with the eyes being small, set on a wide forehead. The nostrils, of the New Forest Pony are wide, and the mane, tail and forelock of the pony is abundant in lustrous hair. The withers of the New Forest Pony are placed high up, giving way to a long and angular back. The shoulders are long and flanks are strong and muscular. The hind quarters are sloping in nature, which attributes to the power and strength of the pony. The ponies have a deep chest and great depth when it comes to the body, making them very athletic. The legs of these ponies are very strong and broad, with well demarcated joints. The New Forests Ponies are very intelligent animals with a calm disposition and bearing.
