Crossing of animals for retaining the genetically best characteristics of both the parents is an age old practice by humans for getting returns and benefits from a livestock. During the course of human history voluntarily or involuntarily such livestock were cross bred and what we see today are all crossed within and outside each domesticated specie. Among the horses The Quarter Cross variety is a cross between American Quarter and other breeds. They are registered with the American Half Quarter Register as per several stipulation and condition to make such horses eligible for registration. For example, a ¾ bred Quarter Horse may be a cross with a fully registered Quarter Horse parent and a Half Quarter parent. With several possibilities of having different parents the Quarter Horse Half bred are numerous and are of as many colors too. The most sought after breed of Quarter Horse Half are the Quarter-Arab, Quarter- Morgan, Quarter- Saddle bred, Quarter- Appaloosa and Quarter- Paint. The other common varieties include the Quarter- Clydesdale, Quarter- Haflinger, Quarter- Percheron, Quarter- Standard bred and Quarter- Walking Horse.
The Quarter Horse Half is very easily available and less expensive than the original Quarter Horse and may not beat the later in races where they are present. However it is generally seen that a Quarter Horse is good trailer and an excellent hand in the farm. In short, it is a good all round horse. Again, they too have the same height and body weight of the original Quarter Horse. Except for grand scale racing and jackpots where the Quarter Horse fares the best, the Quarter Horse Half is also a sports star in its own area like local sprinting, jumping and trailing. These horses are sort of mass produced in ranches as they are always in demand such that they offer an alternative in the fields of racing and trailing. Again, they are easily domesticated and are friendly to human beings.
