The Sell Francais horses are a perfect image of a sport horses and are the highly significant sport horses of France. The complete name of this breed is Cheval de Selle Francais which means a French Saddle Horse. Yet they must not be mistaken as the gaited Saddle Horse of North America. The Sell Francais horses were recognized as a breed in December 1958. After the World War II they were developed by pairing local breeds with Trotters, Anglo-Arabians, Arabians and Thoroughbreds.
The North American Selle Francais Horse Association that was established in the 1990’s conducts a yearly scrutiny of breeding stallions and offers information to the common people to encourage the breed and also helps the breeders with precise data about their bloodlines.
