The breed called Vladimir Heavy Draft was initially developed in the regions of the Vladimir and Ivanovo country, these breeds of horses were a crossbreed of various other good breeds such as Percheron and Suffolk, sometimes breeds such as Clydesdale and Shire were also used in some places during 1919 and 1929. The main reason for cross breeding these drafts of horses was to breed a horse which had comparatively higher speeds and was relatively less powerful than its parents. A breeding station called Gavrilovo-Posad played a very vital role in the development of this breed. This breed was officially recognized in the year 1946.
The Vladimir heavy Draft combines good build, you speeds and relatively high energy levels Compaq to the other breeds, the average Vladimir stallion has a height of withers 160, body length of oblique 165, has a chest girth of 196, and its cannon bone girth of 24, they usually weigh around 750 to 800 Kg, the smaller mares’ of the Vladimir are 157,162,188 and 23 cm in measurements respectively.
The Vladimir's features comprises of a clean-cut head that is arched, and a strongly well muscled neck, the back is relatively long and little dipped, it's got a short and broad loin with long and strong legs, the chest is usually broad and is not sufficiently deep, the ribs are insufficiently sprung, it normally has well-developed tail and limbs. You would most often find this kind of breed of horse in the colour of bay, Brown and black.
The Vladimir’s performs good with high speed and good stamina, for a 2000m walking the Vladimir could pull 150 Kg in 12 min 34.2 sec; its got a trotting strength of pulling 50 Kg in 4 min 34 sec. the horse’s endurance and stamina with a pull of 300 Kg is around 1km, the maximum pull is around 820 kg, which is around 95% of the horse’s weight.
