The breed named Vyatka belong to the northern Russian territories of Kriov and Perm, it is largely influenced by the natural conditions prevalent there in those territories, it is also influenced and developed in the region called Udmurita, which is also in northern Russia. The Vyatka’s breeding timeline spans several centuries taking us back to the old Estonian era and the Novgorod colonists who brought this breed of horses with them, the breed was largely in royal use during the prosperous reign of Peter the Great, the Estonian horses were largely imported during the development of the mining industries of Urals. The features that stand out in various respects, its got a good draft build, sufficiently good speed and a very good endurance and stamina level, it is also known for its excellent fodder utilization and economic consumption of fodder. The horses are in wide use even beyond the province of Vyatka. It is considered one of the best troika horse in Russia.

The Vyatka horses have a clean-cut head with broad forehead and jaws. Its got a shot neck which is well arched. The back is usually broad, long and is often slightly dipped at the withers, it has got a croup that is wide and short on the sides, the trunk is deep and wide, it has got legs that are short, thick and normally very strong with very good hoofs. The main feature that makes this breed stand out from the rest is the colour, which usually is Chestnut-roan or bay-roan with characteristic black stripes along the spine and wing shaped patterns on the shoulder. Very rarely you can find a Vyatka in brown or black colour. The common measurement of a modern Vyatka mare is Height:140 withers, oblique body length of around 150, a chest girth of 172, it has a cannon bone girth of 18.9. the mare usually weighs around 400 kg.

The Udmurtia and the Kirov regions boost of around 2000 horses of this breed, due to massive agricultural growth and machinery the number of horses belonging to this breed is in strong decline and are usually mated with other heavy draught horses or trotters. In the long run the horses could be used for several purposes, it could be used in tourism and other purposes, moreover the upkeep of these horses are minimal because of its good utilization of fodder.
