The Yili horse belonged to china just like the Yanqi. The Yili breed was obtained from cross breeding Russian horses with native Chinese horses and the new breed therefore came into existence. The Russian horses were a combination of hot blood and warm blood horses and many of them also had Stallion kind of qualities just like the Arabian horses. Cross breeding was mainly under taken by breeders so that horses that were ideal for working and dressage were individually created. Equally the Yili horse displayed a lot of stamina and endurance to walk long distances and at a good speed.
The Yili horse was mainly found in grey, chestnut, black and shades of gray colors. They measured 14 hands in height and were a medium sized horse with a good temperament. They were used a lot by people who were migrating by foot in old days and had to carry many things across countries. These horses were ideal for such things because they could walk long distances without much effort. The Yili horse later was also found in the Xingjian along with the yanqi horse and there is a possibility that cross breeding between them as they did share strong resemblances to each other through qualities like stamina, endurance, workmanship and draft horse like qualities.
On the whole one might find that the Yili horse has a compact figure with a straight profile of body and a light head. The neck is medium long and among males of the breed it could be slightly arched. They have a short and strong back that makes it ideal for riding and carrying heavy weights. The legs give out a strong appearance and the impression that they can walk. These horses can be used for riding and driving and also as farm animals for their even temperament.
