The Zhemaichu breed of horse is from Lithuania and has been existent since the sixteenth century. The horse has been exposed to a lot of cross breeding despite which it has still been able to maintain its quality as a work horse that can be used on farms and agriculture business. It is an extremely manageable horse and very undemanding by nature and due to this the horse has been exported to Western Europe in large numbers. It is a small horse a little taller than a pony and measures about 144 centimeters in length. They come in solid colors such as black brown, shades of brown and chestnut.
The modern Zhemaichu is much different in looks from the old Zhemaichu and this can be mainly attributed to the reason of cross breeding that existed in Lithuania. The modern Zhemaichu has a well muscled neck and strong legs. The modern Zhemaichu were mainly cross bred with the Swedish stallions and so it also gave them an edge over height. The cross breeding has also resulted in extra endurance and more agility, making it a very good specimen of work horse. These horses can also be used for trotting in dressage shows because of their small muscular build and well formed legs.
The Zhemaichu also is considered to be a good combination of utility and sports horse and can perform well in trotting draught tests with average difficulty. It may also have the bloodline of the Trakhenen which is another Lithuanian horse. This is also considered as a valuable breed for breeding mid sized horses for working. Modern day scientists call the Zhemaichu stallions or the Zhemaichu good meat producing horses due to their bulky weight and the horses can actually carry considerable amount of weight in their body.
